Ben Drucker

Academic Perspective Editor-in-Chief, Economics Editor, Staff Writer

Ben is a junior at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, and has lived in suburban New Jersey all his life. He runs a photography business, Ben Drucker Photography, and spends much of his free time in the realm of photography in one way or another. His political interests primarily surround economics, which he has studied at Columbia University. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of Academic Perspective, and also edits the Economics section and is one of the contributing writers on staff.

Ben Donald

Academic Perspective Managing Editor, Social Issues Editor, Staff Writer

Ben is a junior at Columbia High School. Serving as Class President over the past 3 years, he is well versed in formulating and conveying his opinions to those around him. A recipient of the History Scholar Award, as well as growing up in a biracial household, Ben maintains a great interest in understanding and examining social trends and issues facing the nation. In his free time, Ben enjoys playing sports and managing a local DJ business, along with recording and performing music with fellow Academic Perspective editor Seth Wolin.

Seth Wolin

Academic Perspective Managing Editor, Education Editor, Staff Writer

A native of Houston, Texas, and now a junior at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, Seth occupies his time writing and recording music with his band, performing in plays and musicals, and reading every marginally cynical pop-sociology book he can get his hands on. In school, Seth serves on the Board of Education as Student Representative, the Task Force for Excellence and Equity, and has received the History Scholar Award. He also manages a local DJ business, along with recording and performing music with fellow Academic Perspective editor Ben Donald.

Jake Silberg

Academic Perspective Editor, Staff Writer

Jake Silberg is a Junior at Columbia High School. He became interested in politics and government during the 2000 election cycle and has followed it avidly ever since, covering the 2008 Presidential Election as a correspondent for Youth Radio. In addition, he served as a United States Senate Page this past summer, where he sat in on much of the healthcare debate and witnessed the confirmation vote of Justice Sotomayor. After battling cancer in 2007, Silberg became involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, most recently speaking at the Nation’s Triathlon in Washington, DC in September. He is almost 2 years cancer-free, and hopes to become a pediatric oncologist.

Aaron Brown

Academic Perspective Staff Writer

Aaron is a junior at Columbia High School. He has always been interested in math because of its universal understandability, but he took on the opportunity to be a writer on the Academic Perspective staff as a challenge and to to try something new. Though he stays up to date on current events, and loves history, writing never really appealed to him. However, Academic Perspective has allowed him to contribute a unique perspective to a site full of creative people.

Sarah Brauner

Academic Perspective Staff Writer

Sarah is a junior at Columbia High School. As a daughter of semi-hippies and artists, Sarah spent her childhood being carried around site-specific art installations and jetting off to Berkeley, California. Perhaps it is because of this that she developed both a hate for conceptual art and a love for traveling.

William Nzioka

Academic Perspective Staff Writer

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, William emigrated to the United States at the age of nine. His mother, in all her travels, sought to make available to him the best possible opportunity she could, deciding to shift to America. His interest in writing comes from the many experiences he has as an expatriate. Among his other interests, traveling and learning languages seem to take up most of his time. William likes to approach problems with a different perspective, which often results in him crafting unique solutions to today’s problems, a testament to his own creativity.
